Airport Pickup Tips
CFU's rental area is immediately outside the arrivals exit — turn right and the desks line the wall. Present your passport, EU license or IDP, and credit card. Corfu's local operators are often more negotiable on insurance than international brands — ask about reducing the excess deposit if you have travel insurance. Pickup is fast: 5–10 minutes off-season, 15 minutes in summer.
Corfu's roads are narrow with overhanging vegetation — look for branch scratches on the roof and A-pillars. Island rental cars also accumulate salt spray damage on wheel arches and undercarriage. Getting from Corfu Airport to the City
CFU is 3 km from Corfu Town — a 10-minute drive. The coastal road runs north to Kassiopi (40 min) and south to Kavos (55 min). For Paleokastritsa (west coast), take the main road through Corfu Town and over the mountain (25 min). For the hilltop village of Old Perithia (northeast), allow 45 minutes on narrow mountain roads.
Sunrise and Top Kinisi operate from dedicated lots on the airport access road, 500 meters from the terminal. Both offer meet-and-greet at arrivals and competitive weekly rates. Sunrise includes free child seats and unlimited mileage on all bookings — features that Hertz and Avis charge extra for at CFU.
What to Know Before Driving from CFU
Greece drives on the right. Corfu speed limits are effectively 50 km/h on most roads (some rural stretches allow 70 km/h). There are no traffic lights outside Corfu Town. Yield to vehicles already on roundabouts. Parking in Corfu Town's historic center is virtually impossible in summer — use the Spianada Esplanade car park (€2/hour) or the New Port area.
Corfu has no motorways — all roads are rural, winding, and shared with scooters, ATVs, and tour buses. Drive defensively. The mountain road to Angelokastro fortress is single-track with drop-offs and no barriers. Cell coverage is good island-wide, but carry a physical map as backup — GPS signal can drop in the mountainous interior.

EKO and Shell stations are on the main road between CFU and Corfu Town. Island fuel prices run 10–15% above mainland rates: unleaded approximately €2.00/L. The closest station to CFU is the EKO on Ethnikis Antistaseos Avenue, 1 km from the terminal. Fill up before heading to the north or west coast — the next stations are 20+ km away.
